1966 230 sl Euro
I am seriously considering purchasing this car from a seller on ebay. I am in the process of checking things out and I was wanting any information from the viewers on this car. Miles: 55250. from the pictures it looks in very good shape. No rust, clean engine comp. Has hard & soft tops. Just looking for general info on this particular model. Thanks guys. Michael
One more thing. Does anybody know how I could trace the history of this vehicle. MB USA does not have any info as it is Euro model. 1994 s320 2000 c280 Last edited by CODE3SWFD; 08-31-2006 at 03:48 PM. Reason: and another question |

They are beautiful cars
My neighbor had one when I was in high school in the late 70's. It was white with blue interior and was in perfect shape. It also had the four speed. As far as particulars on the car I guess I would really be on the lookout for rust. They have those magnets meant for checking out if there is a bunch of bondo on the car. Maybe one of those would be in order. Watch out for eBay, there are many disreputable people there.

the 230 sl will have a mechanical fuel injection system that can be a problem to get right if it is not.
it is not a car that i would buy without driving it and having it inspected by someone knowledgable of 230sls. tom w

I purchased a 250SL through www.oursl.com back in January and have been very happy with it. It is entirely rust free which, as others stated, is very important. One can spend thousands if this is an issue. All W113 models (Pagodas) have mechanical fuel injection, which will provide years of good service, as long as it has been maintained properly. The 230SL has some parts that didn't carry over to the 250SL and 280SL. Thus they are rare and expensive. In general, all three models are fairly similar.
Take some time and familiarize yourself with the following website: www.sl113.org Don't be in any hurry to buy one, as they are readily available. Taking your time on learning about the car will greatly benefit you....but I do understand the excitement that goes with wanting one! Here is a couple of readings that will be invaluable to you: http://www.sl113.org/articles/engine/buying_a_car.asp http://www.sl113.org/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5569&SearchTerms=unseen http://www.sl113.org/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4851&SearchTerms=buying http://www.sl113.org/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4650&SearchTerms=buying Best of luck to you!
