changing a light bulb

Has anyone changed the light bulb beneath the gearshift in a 560Sl? I'm trying to decide how big a project this might be. It would be nice to see the gear options at night.

easy peasy

Hi

I had the same problem and a couple of very helpful members (ricdee and Strife) gave me this info:

"In order to remove the wood console you must:

First remove ashtray

Remove ashtray frame

There will be two screws at the top of the wood console, remove them

Then pull out the console towards the back of the car, ***do not pull it up*** there's one peg that slides into the center console and must be removed by sliding it out

ALSO

1. Don't scratch the wood with the ashtray frame. It's a tight fit.

2. Do not overly tighten the hold-down screws for the console, doing this will promote cracking of the veneer.

Actually replacing the bulb is a pull out and push replacement job.

Hope this helps

cheers

Thumbs up Light bulb

Like he said easy. The bulb is a bayonet type but not the normal bayonet you find in US cars. My local NAPA dealer can get them for me but he has to order them. Not bad for a town of 10k.

Wait mine is a 450 so might be a little diff.
