the window went down but it won't go up
I'm afraid that Daisy (1986 560SL) has a dead left window lift motor. It happened suddenly and I checked/replaced the fuse....no help. Does anyone have any experience with replacing the motor?

It is almost certainly the switch. Try swapping the one from the other side and see if you can get the window to go up.

How do you take the switches out?
Hello! I've got the same problem with the passenger side window in my 380SL 1985. It went down, but it won't go up. I'm searching through my pretty lousy shop manual, but can't figure out how to pull the window switches out of the center console so that I can switch them and see if that's the problem. How do you do that? Thanks, Chris

Window switches
Hi
The switches are clipped in - you only need to lever them out BUT use something smooth so you don't damage the wood on the console. I suggest that you either put someting plastic like a credit card alongside the edge of the switch or even try low stick masking tape, and use a smooth edged knife or even a plastic one but careful when removing the tape afterwards as you might pull up the edge of the veneer. The switches are held with a pair of clips on each swich - replacement is just a matter of pushing(carefully) them back. Cheers Jim

If you find that its not the switch,it most certainly is the relay.Thats what the problem was on my 560SL.The relay is located behind the glove box.

window problem corrected
As was recommended by a Forum user, I removed the window switch and used a can of compressed air to clean the connections. I replaced the switch and it worked perfectly. I've had no more problems since cleaning the contacts.

1. I would really advise removing the console plate (instructions repeated many times in this forum) and pushing the switches out from behind. There is much less risk for damage.
2. These switches were very well designed and built, and can be completely disassembled and cleaned. I'll bet a lot of them fail from coffee spills, etc. I've even revived dead "B" switches in the shifter (also no doubt victims of sugar in coffee) with nothing but diassembly, cleaning, and reassembly.
