Unhappy 107 seat install

Took the passenger seat out to replace seat belt receiver. Getting the seat height adjustment installed when I re-installed the seat is impossible. I finally unhooked the large spring and installed the seat. I am about to take it to my mechanic to get it re-installed. Does anyone know of a procedure???

I assume you do not have a service manual. The procedure explained there-in is complete. I just finished repairing my seat height adjustment mech on my '88 560 and had no difficulty. Without knowing how you removed the seat, it is hard to comment on how to replace. To remove the seat, the big spring need not be disturbed; however, if spring was removed to repair height mech, then it needs to be replaced before lowering seat back into position. The manual also describes a home-made tool to fabrcate to help with spring replacement.

I hope you get it fixed... I might be able to send to you the .pdf file describing seat removal if it is not too large. PM me and I'll check.

I also did this and shouldn't have done it. The following worked for me but WARNING: the spring is _very_ powerful and you could _certainly_ get hurt if the following procedure is applied carelessly.

I don't recall exactly how the frame works, but I used a small bottle jack between the frame parts (which should be obvious) to stretch the spring out enough to get the screws in place - turn them in several turns before loosening the jack. As long as the bottle jack is kept horizontal and between the parts nothing will "spring". I think I used a block of wood on the business end of the jack to give it more pushing area.

Thank you for your replies. I actually do have the service manual. Should have checked it first. My bad... They do show a "homemade tool" to pull the spring in place. I will have to decide if I do it myself or take it to my mechanic...
