Hard top fit

I just put the hard top on my 1979 450 SL for the first time. All the latches are locked down but there is about a 1/4" gap between the bottom back of the hardtop and the car. Is this normal? Thanks

there is a thick rubber seal, it should not show light under it. The chrome piece sits off of the car.

just to make sure, the window-handle thing is clocked to the right position? (in the back seat area)

What actually makes contact is the rubber seal; there's space between the hard parts of the top and the body. I need to slide a folded towel under the top to dry the area when I wash mine.
