Dual exhaust for 1991 500SL

(also posted in tech help).

I am looking into the possiblity of adding dual exhaust to my new to me (4 weeks ago) 500SL.

Any ideas on how the best way to do this would be?

Thanks

Matt

That vehicle already has dual exhausts as well as tuned headers. There is no after market way to make it any better than it already is.

91 500 Sl

Actually it does not have dual exhausts. The pipes come off the engine as dual (the have to for a V8), but they combine into 1 cat and 1 pipe for exit..

So your car will sound like twin 6 cylinder engines revving, instead of a nice V12?

You'll have a lot of trouble fitting a second silencer on the opposite side of the current one. You'll also need a rear apron or demec lip to hide it. IMO it's not worth the trouble - replace the rear box with a twin pipe version from Eisenmann or a custom stainless job and remove the centr box. R129s don't really suit twin / quad exhausts.

dual exhausts

Good feedback everyone. Space issue comment was something that I had not thought about.
And yes, it is a V8. In which case it would sound like two 4 cylinders if you did not know what you were talking about..

I bought a Flowmaster universal 2.25" dual exhaust and replaced the bottom muffler with 2 cherry bombs and then routed the 2 pipes out the same way the stock ones route. No second muffler WoW! People don't believe I have a stock 73 450SLC engine. I welded it all together except at the in and out of the cherry bombs and the cross-over. I used stainless strap clamps at those joints.

Really? No kidding? You need to take a short video clip of this under acceleration (with sound of course) and post it. I'd love to know how this sounds.
