Looking to Buy 1995 SL600 Advice?

I am looking at a very well kept 1995 SL600 that has 64K miles. I can get it at KBB wholesale price.

Are there common problems with this model?

Why do they loose so much value (i.e. 17% of original MSRP)?

Thanks,
Patrick

Yeah there's a common problem, they'll absolutely break you when something goes wrong. Rip your heart out too.

Unless you KNOW what you're doing (like being an MB tech or awesome DIYer), and are aware of the costs of owning a V12, think twice.

And then after they rip your heart out, they'll throw it on the ground and stomp on it.

Have lusted after the V-12, but luckily have resisted the urge. That would probably end my 40 year marriage.

Yeah, it would probably end my 15 year marriage. But the worst of it is not the divorce, but the fact that she'd probably cut my body into little pieces and boil them on the stove.

Forget about the V12 !!!! The 500 is expensive enough.
You want to be rich and own a manual on the thing! (And we are only talking about the 500 here!!!!)
If you ever have a problem - do NOT touch. Read about it first. It is a darn sight cheaper. (Trust me, I know).

(Get an SL 500 and put V12 badges on it, no one will be the wiser. All those Diesel guys thought my 560SEC was an AMG hehe )

It might still be worth it as long as she dosent get the V-12 in the settlement.

Settlement? What settlement?

I wondered if we've scared Patman away? He hasn't come back with a response since his original query.

Jim, you have a beautiful car, and I can see why man people mistake it. It looks simply amazing!

As for the V12, make sure that you have all the documentation (records) as previous owner information (hard driver/poor maintainence). That will save you tons in the end.

The V12 is a GREAT motor! Endless power to 155MPH, smooth, and sound great! Just get one that has not been abused, and that was taken care of, and it will be just as sound as any other SL.

Don't waste your time on a 1995.

1996 gets you updated radio, climate control, xenon auto leveling lights, 5 speed automatic electronic transmission with adaptive learning, better interior, no wiring harness rotting, and much much more.

Thanks for the tips

I haven't been completely scared away. The car is babied by the current owner. He has only put 13K on it the last 4 years. He has had one repair (something that senses the suspension?).

Many of you seem to think there is something wrong with the V12. Is there a reliability problem?

The car is immaculate and I am lured by the fact it only has 64K miles.
