1978 SL Rear Shocks

Has anyone tried to replace the rear shocks on a '78 SL? How do you get access to the top of the shock?

You have to remove the rear panels right under the boot cover

As ERIC said...you have to remove the inner rear enterior panels. I was going to change out my wore out rear coil springs and started with the passanger side. came off pretty easilly. Then found out you need a special coil spring compessor to get the coils out . I didn't try the drivers side (was alittle leary of the "crank" handle for the top release) After you get the panels off...piece of cake to change the shocks. Good luck on your project.

thanx for the info.

after digging around, i found out that i had to remove the side panels. taking the boot release/soft top release handle off is really easy. just push the clip on the backside of the handle, remove the black leather cover on the face of the handle and remove the "C" clip on the crank. Handle comes right off.
