A/C Relay location on 82 500SL

Can anyone tell me where my relay for my A/C might be.

It doesn't seem to be in the fuse box where I thought it should be.
There are 4 relays in there That I traced out

Intermittent Wipers
Headlight Wipers
Door Lights x2

Having two for the doors seems a bit strange but they both click with the operation of the door switches ( one drives the otherand the lights)

The info I have said there should be one for the A/C that is a delay, so the Idle control box adjusts the idle before the compressor starts.

My car is one with an Idle control unit ,but no Lambda control and I can't find a wiring diagram for love or money. I have several for other models and also for a 500SL but they either have Lambda control units also or no Idle control.

I'm begining to think my car didn't have A/C from the factory, could I be right?

Any help on this would be great.

Thanks

Damian

No lambda control, awesome! These things are worthless.

Have you checked your A/C to see if the system looks like a 3rd party add-on? Such as GM parts, wiring, etc? I know from the factory these cars used American compressors (Frigidaire, some AC Delco), so that is considered normal.

What type of switch is in your car to turn the A/C on? Mine has manual HVAC and has a electrical switch in the center to activate A/C.

David,

It the A/C thermostat is monted on the back of the dial switch that opens up the freash air vents and gets power from the heater fan switch. I've been told this is correct for the older models, but they don't have electronic idle control.
The wiring there does look after market to me, so either someone has done some repairs or it may be an add on system.

Maybe I just have to find how the wire from the compressor gets into the car and maybe just hook it back up to the thermostat, put a relay under the hood and call it a day?
I think with the extra load of the compressor on the engine wouldn't drop the idle that much anyway.

If any of you know how it should be let us know.

Regards

Damian
