US-spec or gray-market?
I just read a post that mentioned that the gauges for gray market SL's will have the Temp in Celsius and the Oil Pressure in Numbers (0-1-2-3-etc). This is how mine is ('83 380SL). Does that mean I have a gray-market car?

This only refers to 450SL's. I think US-spec 380SL's and 560SL's had metric gauges.

The US spec 380's gauges were all metric, but the 560's outside temp gauge was changed to F.

Hi: After reading the threads I must offer the following. I have a 1980 450SL
with celsius temp and numbered oil pressuure guages. According to the VIN I don't believe this car to be gray-market. |

It's possible that 1980 was the first year for metric gauges. After all, back then we all thought the USA was going to go metric!!!

Not really
I had a 78 240D with a metric oil guage. Since It was one family ownership until it's murder (by a Toyota, no less), I can assure it was original. Unless European delivery had something to do with it...
