Glasses compartment

1997 SL 500 Glasses compartment stays " popped up " . Anyone know of a way to repair or disable so it will remain down and flush with dash?

There is two Phillips head screws inside the compartment remove them and pull it out, you probably see a lot of broken or missing plastic parts and a spring or two, you can try to glue them back together so it will stay close, it will stay for a while as long as you never open it again, or you can go to the dealer and get another one, I tried it on mine a couple of years ago and it still shut, never to be open again.

Glasses compartment

Carlos,
Thank you. However, I removed the two screws and the compartment is still very secure. I don`t want to force it. Feels like something else is holding it in place. Any suggestions? While I have you, the ash try cover has to be pushed very firmly for it to go own and when it does, it will not stay. Any suggestions here? Thanks much.

The compartment has a lip down into the dial cover for the A/C just pry the bottom of the compartment slightly upwards and pull out.
