Humming to Light Roar

Bought new tires and had them speed balanced. I noticed at about 45mph there was a light humming noise coming from front end. At about 65-70 mph it becomes a light roar with a little vibration felt in the gas pedal. Now the funny part is when going around a slight curve it is quiet as a mouse. Any ideas ???????

Sounds Like a Wheel Bearing!

Had something like this occur on my 300SD. Turned out to be a wheel bearing.

Good Luck

Try moving the tires to different corners of the car, as if you were rotating them.

Red face tires

KUMHO AST, purchased from tire rack and seemed fine. Put the car on rack today, and wheels did not feel loose. Will pull tires tomorrow and hope bearings do not fall onto the ground. Well maybe a bad tire?

Sounds like bad or loose wheel bearings. I need to check mine this weekend. I got the same waaaaaaaaaa hummmmmmmm noises. Hope it's not the rear ones. Half the time when you think it is the fronts, it turns out to be the rears.

It's wheel bearings. I thought I had a power steering pump problem due to the humming.

And no, they won't fall out. In fact, the bearing races are a complete pain to get out!

Well, I'm thinking since the noise goes away when I turn to the right it is in the left wheel. I'm in the process of doing the work , pull both wheels and while spinning rotor feel slight resistance on left side. Pulled grease cap on rt side looks good, freshly changed as a matter of fact. Then it hits me could the previous owner have changed only the rt side and left the lt side for later? Will post more later. OH PAGE is it true aint no body feelin no pain?

Wheel Bearings

OK, I just finished changing both innner and outer bearings on both sides. No evidence of damage on old bearings however the humm and roar is gone. Seems like the tires I hated so bad, aren't that bad after all. The noise was the beginning of the bearings failure. So I am happy and the weather will be beautiful for my topless trip to Fla.
