Handy Ebay Used Part Condition Conversion Table

Below is a handy conversion table for descriptions in eBay auctions of used parts. I should mention that this chart does not apply to Potomac Auto Parts, which has always had fair descriptions in my experience. Most, but not all, commercial suppliers have had generally honest descriptions but almost always not as good as described.

Private parties are another story.

On chrome parts, for parts described as "excellent", you can bet that they are pitted, but usable as cores for rechroming. Even if you ask before bidding.

Auction Description - Actual Condition

Perfect = very good, you might even be able to use it as it is
Excellent = fair to good, will need refinishing/rebuilding
Very good =fair, will need extensive refinishing/rebuilding
Good = Poor, possibly rebuildable
Fair = Unrebuildable Garbage
"As-Is" = Unrebuildable Garbage

Clever. I've been burned too. And since I don't want to hurt my 100% rating, I generally keep my mouth shut, and chalk it up to experience.

I just paid $350 for a rear Euro (chrome in good shape no rust) that was rusted through the full length. They offered to send me another one. I told them they were already into me for 350, why would I gamble another 140 for shipping. Then I filed a claim against them. Got $175 back. Last time I do that.

That's too bad. Who was the seller? Or may we see the listing to know who to avoid?

You should put this in the EBAY alert thread.

I've bought quite a bit of auto stuff on e-bay over the years and I've never been burned. That doesn't mean there aren't a few crooks in the crowd, but overall, I think most sellers are reputable. Always check the feedback and read the comments. I've seen where a seller gets a Positive feedback mark and then a vailed negative comment. Read between the lines.
