560SL Valve Cover Removal and Fuel Line Question
I have been scoping out the removal of the left valve cover since I plan to remove it and check my chain guide rails and cam oilers. I have not started the job yet or removed the air cleaner, but it appears that the fuel lines will need to be disconnected so this valve cover can be removed.
Where is the best place to disconnect these? Am I confusing things, or does one of the fuel lines route in and out of a collar on the large A/C hose? Or have I got that line confused with small A/C lines? In any case, it looks like this line in the way at the rear of the cover. Thanks for the help and advice!

You should disconnect both fuel line connections at the brake booster and plug with a golf tee to keep them from dipping. Also loosen the gas cap to relieve the pressure from the lines. To help remove the valve cover, I disconnected the brake booster vacuum line right behind the engine, at the point where the throttle cable is located, and the fuel line from the pressure regulator on top of the intake manifold. This will give you enough room to get the cover off. You do not need to loosen anything on the air conditioner cooler line. If you get everything out of the way it is pretty straight forward.

I'm not sure how you would check the oil tube fittings. If you have the cover off, suggest you simply replace them.
Also, a 1/4" drive torque wrench is a good investment to do the bolts that hold the cover to the head. And a new gasket and washers are a good idea.

It's an easy job but if you do the right side first that VC is much easier to get on and off. You'll see how the oilers are installed and then can move onto the left side with experience under your belt. Yeah, you need to disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel cooler and the vacuum from the booster before that left VC will come off and it's pretty intuitive after that. Good luck. You can tell a lot about the way the engine was maintained by looking in there too...mine with 100K+ miles was clean as a whistle, not a gram of sludge anywhere.
