Kayla,

A 560SL is classy always, and fun when the sun shines. Sporty, not so much. It won't run very far on a tank of gas. and it likely won't sell instantly like your deisel did. It will need frequent attention to keep it running right. And even when it's running right, it's still an old car.
It's a lot like your horse. Those who like them, like them a lot regardless of the fact that they do not make much sense economically.

You say you live in S.S.I. B.C. Where's that?
You should know that these cars are competent in the rain, but terrifying in snow or ice. (Doesn't it snow in Germany?) I drove one for 12 years in Saskatchewan and was regularly caught in early or late winter storms while trying to stretch the short season for the car. Talk about white knuckles! The car is a handful in slippery conditions, especially if it suffers from fast idle as mine often did. I think I invented the sport of drifting.....

Salt Spring Island B.C. is located 25 miles north of the San Juan Islands in Washington. It is located between Vancouver island and the Vancouver the mainland BC.
I admit I am chicken when it comes to snow and usually avoid it. If I had to drive in the snow I would barrow my fathers 03 chevy duramax 4x4 truck. Thankfor for the knowledge!

Red face Very possibly a good example of a desirable car.

The California license plates (5K issue) aren't original to the car, they are a few years old. (See: www.calpl8s.com)

If it was an originally licensed in Calif. it would have had blue and gold plates through about Sept. '86 then the rising sun/white plates if in the latter part of the year.

Perhaps not a big deal, but if it was a lifetime Calif. car it normally would have had the original plates on it for life, unless, they were at some time replaced by handicapped, vanity, veteran or other special plates at sometime, or the plates were lost or damaged if the car was wrecked at one point.

The Beverly Hills Ltd plate frames are also NOT original, that style for them came out from the dealer about 6 or 7 years ago I think, But they are fun to have on the car.

Certainly this one appears worth a look and a perusal of it's service records, to see what has been done, and what hasn't.

Hard to say much about the price, and whether the seller can be hammered on it. The mileage isn't mentioned on the ad, and if the car has over 150,000 miles on it, then it is definately on the high side. From the pictures the car appears to be an unmolested original, which is a good sign

Your father is quite right, you will "look good" in it, many of these were bought new for or by rich women in Beverly Hills/Bel Air, Palm Beach or the Hamptons, who considered them "fashion accessories"
and their destinations were the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel, the Palm Springs Tennis Club, Newport Beach Fashion Island, and so forth.

Build quality was extremely high, fuel consumption nothing to write home about, and they have withstood the test of time as good, ong lasting cars generally.

The 560 engine asks for a new timing chain, tensioner and guide rails after 100,000 miles has been reached. They run on premium gas, and don't expect to break the 20mpg barrier with them, you won't. They have 227 hp, and you can expect 0-60 in under 7.5 seconds, not scorching, but not bad either.
They are more like cruisers than like sports cars. They use premium gas (560SL)

It's over 15 years old so no problems with getting it registered in Canada.

If you like the color, it would be well worth a look as a candidate for purchase. Take a look at the records and history, it tells a lot. This one could
be a nice vehicle.
These are long term keepers, and very safe.

If you get one, you'll likely want to purchase also, a hardtop hoist or hardtop stand, if they are not included in the sale.
