SL380 speedo not working

Hi all, My SL380 (R107/ 1882/ uk spec R/H hand dr) speedo/odometer has stopped working. I've tried another speedo I bought S/hand & is ok to no avail. Apparently there is an "impulse transmitter" on the gearbox, could it be this? could it be anything else? aonyone any clues before I spend even more cash on more parts
