1988 560SL Instrument Cluster gages peg with lights on

I have a 1988 560SL that recently suffered a windshird wipper transmission failure. After removing an replacing the instrument cluster to inspect the damage, the coolent temp fuel level and oil pressure gages all went heywire and the turn signal indicator lights stay on at all times, outside turn signals work fine. The oil pressure and water temp gages appear to work normal until any outside light is turned on. Normal headlights, park lights turn signals make these gages go to hard over full values. The fuel level just remains pegged at all times. It is possible that the damaged windshield wiper transmission contacted the light switch wiring and did some thing in the wire harness but it's too dificult to tell without pulling the harnass and I cant see how this would effect these other functions.

A "ground" interruption of the printed circuit board on the back of the speedo is the most likely cause.

Thank You gentelmen

I guess that leaves me with a shot gun approach of swaping out the instarment cluster from my 86 and and then trying to find the problem if that fixes it.
