1999 SL500 Loose Rearview Mirror

Hi all! I have 1999 SL500 and the rear view mirror is loose and have looked on the site for hints or tricks, and have not found any on the SL. Can anyone give some advice on how to fix it? It already has been recalled in 2001 I think. The car has 22,500 miles. Thanks guys, and girls!
Gordon

loose mirror

I had the same problem last year. it was relatively easy to fix. if i rememder right, it is glued inside the mirror. first, you have to remove the cover (be careful, i broke mine) and then remove the mirror by pulling straight down(it is spring loaded). Dont pull too far because there are wires attached. after the mirror is disengaged disconnect the wires. Put the mirror on a soft surface and open it up by putting a sharp edge tool( i think i used a screwdriver) between the dividing halves and twisting. you may have to do this on several areas of the mirror. once it is open it is pretty obvious where it has come loose. i used 3M double face tape to stick the two surfaces together. you could probably use a strong glue like "gorilla glue". mine has been fine for a year. hopes this helps as im going from memory
