Anyone have any experience with adding keyless entry to 560 SL?

I checked with a place local to me. He was familiar with MB 107s and he recommended a single solenoid for the driver side door. That way the vacuum system would stay intact and still operate the way MB intended it.

If your central locking system isn't working they can install as many solenoids as you want for the doors, gas flap and trunk. That would eliminate the vacuum setup, but keep the operation of the original system. Of course cost goes up as the number of solenoids increases. I haven't had it done, and may not, but he told me he's done several and gave me references.

I put one in. I have mixed feallings on it. For one there is a tendancy for the car to start buy itself because the button gets pressed in your pocket. So far I have been unable to figure out why the car wont unlock everything when I unlock the doors remotly, but I really havent tried. One of the quircks of the MB 560SL is that side marker lights dont blink with the turn signals. this means that you wont get a lock or unlock confirmation unless you are standing right in front of the car looking straight at it to see the front flasher lights. This is another thing I'm sure can be fixed. Also get one with a horn output so you can hook up a tweet horn. I got a Bulldog unit from Northern Tool, I dont recomend it, No horn output.

Not a 560SL, but I installed a remote start alarm system in my 300SD.. I added a single solenoid to the drivers door and let the vacuum system take care of the rest. It took some creative use of relays to allow the alarm to drive MB's isolated circuits for the right/left blinkers and still leave them isolated. A solenoid valve was used to disable the diesel's vacuum shutoff during remote start. Otherwise, it was a pretty easy, 2-week job. I only worked on it after school for a few hours every day though. Still have some AUX outputs I don't know what to do with. I have the Commando FM-870, very satisfied.

If you haven't already read it, you might get some good info from the DIY articles. There is a good one on installing a keyless entry on a W-124.
