R129 Wind deflectors, do they work?

Hello,

I have a 91 500SL, and am about to buy a wind deflector for the vehicle. Before I do so, I would like to know how effective they are and if it is worth buying one.

Thanks,

Matt

I didn’t get a wind deflector when I bought my R129 i January. After some topless driving in Easter with a freezing wife, I decided to find one – not wife, but deflector, ended up buying one on eBay 2 weeks ago.

Yes, it helps. I shouldn’t have introduced her to open car driving without the deflector, but bought one earlier. Now we drive open even at temperatures as low as 15°C ~ 59°F. It even helps when you drive 130kph ~ 81mph, which is the maximum speed in this country. But of cause it becomes more windy at this speed.

Yes, they work. Wife/GF will like it also because hair will not be messed up.

Put the deflector and the windows up and you'd swear you were in a panarama hart top! Well, maybe not quite that good, but very good none the less.

It works so good, that you want to put it down when you fart.

They work great and putting the windows only half of the way up give you the same results as all the way up and it give one the feel of sitting in a vintage open wheel race car!

The heater is effective in the winter and AC works great in the summer in this configuration of top down deflector up and windows at mid point.

So, they inhibit fart evacuation? Thanks. You really CAN find out everything you need to know about MB's on this website!

Ive heard a rummer that the next generation of SL will have a sensor in the seat to put the wind screen down automatically in such an event.

Bad idea in a rollover event, as you lose all control of bodily functions, including farting!
