Early 107 Engine Grounsd Strap Location?

I was having a bit of trouble w/ my Pertonix install today on my euro 350SL and in checking how good my earth was I found the resistance btw my engine block & my battery was almost .7 ohms. I understand that ideally that should be +/- .2 ohms.

So I went in search of my ground strap (the giant wire that usually resides btw the tranny housing and a frame rail under the car) to clean it up and came up with nada.

I looked all over the underside of the engine I couldn't find squat.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thx.

Hmmmm...cannot recall without looking at my own car, and it's in storage, but look at the PS rear of the cylinder head near the firewall. May be in that area. If you have any doubts about your ground, pick a handy spot and hook up a braided strap from the engine to the chassis. Use star washers to ensure a solid connection to bare metal.

The resistance between the block and the frame should not be measurable with a normal meter. It is in the order of .001 ohms or so. It is a short piece of heavy copper wire. You need special low resistance measuring equipment to read its value.

I suspect the resistance you are reading is in the test leads of the meter you are using. If the engine cranks properly there is not a resistance problem in the cables from the battery to the starter circuits.

I don't know what a "Pertonix" is but you might have resistance or wiring problems elsewhere. Unlikely that it is the ground strap if you can start the car.

I had a problem with my early D Jet. The car would start ok but ran terrible. The voltage to the injectors was low and resistance from the common ground bolt on the plenum to the body was high. I added a ground cable from the altenator bracket bolt to subframe battery ground bolt and it ran great.

on my 450 with the euro 350 installed both the 350 and the 450 had a thick copper braided ground strap drivers side tranny large bolt hole (the blank where a starter motor would go on a right hand drive car) to just below the steering gear. both motors had the strap in the same spot. I just love the pertronix on my car although I installed it with a pertronix flame thrower coil, it was just easier than messing around with the coils and external resistance packs
cheers
