Advice on A/C and central locking system

Last year, the A/C on my 1986 560SL did not seem to cool as well as before. The compressor was working. I took it in to the shop and had the coolant recharged. They put a dye detector in the coolant. After driving the car, I took it back and they could see no obvious leaks. The A/C cooled pretty well the remainder of the Summer. This year, same situation. I have had the system recharged and it is still cooling but the air is not as cool as when it was first recharged. Any thoughts on this? Also, this past weekend, the central locking system activated with the car unlocked in the garage. After trying several maneuvers and looking at the owner's manual (no help), I removed the fuse for the system. Has anyone had this problem. Any ideas on the $$ for repair?

BA

Its obvious that you have a leak in the AC system. Have it located, repaired and refilled. Problem should be solved.

As far as the locking system is concerned, there are a number of things that could cause the problem. It could be: the pump electronics (inside the pump), switches located at the door locks, shorted wires, and probably other things as well. Its impossible to estimate the costs to repair unless the problem is known. Take it to somebody who can diagnose the problem.

I'm willing to bet that in usung the dye they dident check the expansion valve or anything else under the dash. Find someone who has a gas leak detector and get a second opinion. Also are you using R-12 or R-134. One of them leaks more than the other I forgot which.

Your cantral lock, I can only think of a faulty swictch or shorted wires. It's going to be difficult to find if it doesnt do it all the time.

Is this SL's locking system electrical? I thought they were all vacuum.

It is electrical over vacuum. Electrical as the control portion, vacuum as the actuator portion.
