My roll-bar is a little too high when it is put down which causes the window in the soft-top to touch the roll-bar every time it is put up or down.
I guess that I can re-adjust the height of the resting roll-bar with the two nuts on the cylinder at the right side behind the B pillar.

The nuts I am talking about are the ones that are fastened with red loc-tite just above (behind) the cable gutter. I know I have to order special tools to unscrew these nuts, but does anyone know if I can re-adjust the roll-bar with these nuts at all???

greetingz,

To those who will ever be fighting with a roll-bar that is set too high when it is in its down position and therefore creates the rear screen to become dull...the roll-bar IS adjustable.
The local MB dealer couldn't tell me whether it WAS or WAS NOT adjustable and therefore he could not provide me with the proper tools, so I took out the complete hydraulic part that held the adjustable cylinder:

I loosened the nuts that were tightened with red loc-tite after which I installed the cylinder again and re-adjusted the roll-bar until it was completely down to the position where it belongs.

greetingz,

Roll bar warning lights..

This is not a direct response to the posted question, but relates to the roll bar operation in my 90 500 SL. Recently, I noticed that the two upward pointing arrows in the console swith for the roll bar were flashing while the bar was in the lowered position. If I used the switch to raise the bar to the full upright position, they went out. I had the car serviced. In fact my shop sent it to an authorized dealer for the issue, and I was told that the Electronic Control Module was replaced. Things seemed fine when I got the car back. The soft top was up and the roll bar was down. Once I lowered the soft top, the roll bar automatically raised at the end of the cycle. When I tried to lower it using the console switch, the two arrows again lighted AND the warning light for the roll-bar, in the instrument panel, also lighted. Both lights will go out if I raise the roll bar. Any thoughts? It's behaving as though the car detects that the automatic deployment detection system is inactive, hence the "warning" that to be safe I should raise the bar............

This statement is correct. The system detects that there is a problem in the system and that the rollbar will not deploy in case of emergency. When the rollbar is in the upright position, there is no need for deployment anymore and the lights will go out.

My rollbar was behaving exactly the way you described after I readjusted it, but it seemed very normal to me (considering the fact that the rollbar was removed from the car and the car had been running without the seats, airbag and dashcluster). The car detected lots of errors, but after the battery was disconnected for a while (with the rollbar in the down position), the system reset itself and I have no problems with the rollbar (or with the SRS) anymore.
Everything is functioning properly now; you might want to try the disconnected battery; the electrical systems of the early R129s are very user friendly and do not need the dealer’s computer to get reset after every little problem (like with the latter SLs).
I definitely would go back to the dealer that has changed the module first though!

greetingz,
