Shifter Question 450SLC 1979
Recently my gear selector lever on the console has become sloppy and I checked the jam nut that threads on the shifter and it is tight.
The entire assembly has more play than previously and the car is seldom driven, maybe 500-700 miles per year. Any suggestions why the lever is not tight and has play in it? Thank you, Kurt |

I just had this done on my 77 450.The bushings on your shifter are worn.Thisis one of the few repairs that may cost a little more than a 100.00 It needs tobe done soon or you may not be able to engage any gears. This needs to be on a lift to repair

I had this problem on my '79 450SL, the shift bushings were shot. They only cost 1.40 each at Performance Products, and it takes two to fix it. They are replaced from the top, not underneath. An easy two hour fix.
