107 Fuel Immersion Sensor Removal - where on tank?
I am trying to take out the Fuel Immersion Sensor in my '80 450SL. I already took the back plate out of the trunk, and I can see the fuel tank, but I can't find the Sensor unit on the tank from this angle.
Can someone tell me how I can get to this? Do you access it from the trunk, or do I need to go from somewhere else in the car? Thanks! Zack |

If I remember correctly, there are access plugs in the soft top storage well.

107 Fuel Immersion Sensor Removal
Nice, so I really dont' need to remove anything to access it, huh?
What about the fuel filter? How do I gain access to that if I want to change it? Thanks! |

Speaking of fuel systems...
...can anyone tell me what type of fuel system I likely have in my 1980 450sl? I want to read up on the theory and operation of the system, but I know there are a lot of different types that Bosch made.
Thanks! |

It should be good old K-Jet with an oxygen sensor and a frequency valve to fine-tune the air-fuel mixture. 1980 was the first year for this setup, and the last year for the adjustable idle speed. It should also have a combination center muffler and catalytic converter.
The tank sender is definitely under the big black plug in the soft top compartment, and the fuel filter is under the car next to the fuel pump.
