Inside Door Release Handle Adjustment?

The inside door release lever on the driver's side of my 560SL has some "play" before it actuates. Is there a way to adjust this handle so it pulls back in against the plate? The passenger side is not as worn and springs tight against the back chrome plate. Is the chrome plate removeable with taking off the door panel? Thanks.

Alkraut,

The chrome trim is easily removed.

The squarish piece just aft of the release handle pops off, revealing a screw that retains the chrome. Careful of the plastic, use a knife or the smallest screwdriver you have. But that won't show much of the release lever or linkage.

I suspect you'll find the connecting/pivot point for the release handle linkage are worn. But that means pulling the panel. With the panel removed, the handle assembly and linkages are readily accessible.

Dave.

Thank you for the information Dave. I will remove the backing plate and see what it looks like.
