Steering Damper 1980 450 SL

I replaced the steering damper...and, it has improved the ride, less wobble in the steering wheel. BUT, I put the thick part of the shock in the center toward the right side and the sleeve on the left!! Reversed.

What will happen if I leave it this way? Should I reverse it correctly?

(Think, I probably answered my own question.)

I don't believe it'll have any effect on the ride or the lifetime of the part, but it's only two bolts and one of the easiest things on the car to change.
