Help Unknown sensor/switch
Help I have a switch or sensor that screws or slides into the block just above the oil pan and below the oil presure sender on the passenger side that is leaking. Who knows what it is so I can replace it. Can't find it in my CD.

Hi. Now there is 4 years difference between our cars, and the parts places I checked did not list the part you have in question. But on my car, '84 500SEC,the very sensor you question (located in the place you mentioned, is an oil temp sensor used to set the on and off ratio of the frequency valve.

The 560 does not have a frequency valve, it's all handled by the ECU.
I think you are looking for the connector that attaches to the oil level sensor. I have not heard of this problem and looked it up on the CD (18-230). This is a nasty repair. The connector is secured to the block with a locking ring and attaches to a wire that runs to the sensor which is bolted to the oil pump. The oil pan needs to come off. Then you remove the locking ring so that the connector can be removed by pushing it to the inside. Then it looks like the sensor, wire, and connector are replaced as a unit. Sounds OK so far, but in a 107, to get the pan off, you need to either drop the front suspension or lift the engine out. Maybe the pros have another way to deal with it. I would ask that question on the main tech support forum, or of a good shop.

That sure describes it as far as location and the retaining clip. Thanks will have to assess the leak again and see if I can seal it from the outside as from what you stated there should not be any oil pressure on it. Sounds like it is just a pass thru conector. Where did you get you cd manual from.

My oil level sensor leaked on my 560SL. It took two attempts by my mechanic, but he successfully sealed it from the outside. I know that he either loosened it or removed it from the outside and thoroughly cleaned it before applying sealant. It has been several months now and the leak hasn't reappeared. The information Chuck provided is the proper way of actually replacing the factory seal. I was quoted $1600 for this method. My mechanic performed the method described above for free.....guess how hard this was to decide!
