How can you tell if it’s been lowered?

I bought a 1985 500SL Euro model with a complete AMG appearance package. It looks lowered but it might be just an optical illusion because of the 16” wheels and 225/50 tires. After 100,000 miles the shocks are bad and possibly the springs are sacked as well. I really only want to do the shocks for now and don’t know which ones to use. The shocks have an AMG part number but no one knows what they are. From memory, I think the rear spring has one yellow ring painted on it and the front has a single red ring.

Does anyone know how to determine the spring and shock combination?
