1988 560 SL moaning noise in front right wheel area?

Anyone had a problem with a "moaning door sound" when the temperature is warm and you turn the wheels? Does the 560 SL have grease fittings? thanks TGRRS

No grease fittings.
Sound coud be a front wheel bearing that is going. Maybe a worn brake pad with metal to metal rubbing. If it does it without the car moving, it may be a power steering belt slipping.

Mine's laid up for the winter, but I did notice a sound like you describe, like something plastic rubbing as the wheel was turned. Strange.

Try filling up the power steering reservoir to the proper level. That get's rid of that moaning sound on my 300D.

Mystery of the moaning groaning solved

I found out what the moaning sound was, coming from the right side of the car, when the wheel was turned hard left. It sounded like plastic rubbing, and seemed to be coming from under the dash area.
It was the idler arm bushing, very obvious when the tie rod is disconnected and drag link pulled hard left. The bushings are attached to a tube welded to the floorpan, so the sound would telegraph up as if it was under the right side of the dash.
Hope this tidbit is useful to someone. The repair kit is under $20.00, and takes about an hour to install.
