Right or Left ? 117 engine question ( timing Chain)

Looking at the engine, which side has the timing mark on the cam to check chain stretch, or do both banks have the mark?

They both should have a mark (I think the actual marks are on the washer and cam bearings).

Thanks, you may be right, but I was under the impression that the early models ( 72-74 ) had it only on one side.
In thinking about it < I may just remove both sides any way and replace the cam oil tubes /clips that I forgot to do when I did my valve lash, and when I also forgot to check chain stretch

72 - 74 does not have plastic oil tubes and they don't need to be replaced. They also don't have plastic chain rails either, but replacement rails are unfortunately plastic. The alloy block 117 is a very good and very tough engine. But as tough as it is the old iron block 117 is even tougher.

Ok not the tube but the clips that hold the ends in place, they are plastic , correct?

They are plastic and do need to be replaced if they are original and brittle, make sure you get the right ones. MB changed their diameter early on.

When I pulled my vavle cover they were found to be fine. I gave the ends a tug and not sure how they would ever come apart, although they did look like they were serviceable, in any respect, I left well enough alone..
