Broken headlight lens 1997 SL500
Is there anyway short of replacing the entire assembly to fix a broken headlight lens. Tried to pass safety inspection today and they declined it because of the lens. All the parts catalogs seem to show only a complete assembly for $300.00+. It is the standard light.

I had the same problem with a broken lens, had to replace the whole assembly, the lens and backing are one piece. It was not too hard a job, usually not too hard to find a used one either. I was lucky enough to find both a left and right side on Ebay for 30.00 including shipping.
