560sl chrome handle on trunk lid

I have installed a new trunk lid chrome handle almost 2 years ago on my 1986 560sl and it already started to wear off on surface (small dots and holes). Did anyone experience this after changing the old chrome handle?

Does anyone know what would be the part number of the chrome handle on trunk lid (bellow the mercedes star emblem)? I could see this part on russian web page but not the actual part number.

Thanks, Balsa

Well, it's important to keep it waxed (weekly, even) especially in the winter. Be happy that it's cheap for now (like $35 from PerfProducts).

The three pieces underneath, which also pit to junk, are now out of production - and I paid up the yin-yang to have those pieces rechromed. The opinion of the plater was that the parts were originally poorly done.

You better believe that I will be out there waxing those pieces constantly after paying $450 to have them rechromed.

It's hard to belive those pieces are out of production I need 2 sets. They sure do make the car look like crap.

I also need 2 sets of headlight rings $60.00 each $60.00 x 8 = $480 ouch that burns.
