I have had many suggestions for the problems with my car. Very helpful.
I have checked and tested numerous things and all was well.

But still not starting.

And I have noticed now that there is a pool of oil under the car. Where the engine connects with the transmission. I think it will be half a liter or a bit more. Color of the oil is black, so I think no transmission oil.

Suggestions ?

Here is an update about the problems I have with my 380SL.

It starts again and keeps running.
The thing I have renewed was the air duct housing. The old one appeared to be so stiff and the advice was to replace it. I have done so and it starts and runs.

Thanks for all the advice.

I will be back here to update you when it runs FINE.

Huh?

Glad to hear of your success.

But what exactly do you mean by "air duct housing"?

Air duct housing (same as air guide housing ?) = Between throttle body housing and air flow sensor. Requires (1) 102 094 02 12 air hose connector and (1) 116 141 04 45 flange when replacing original housing..... ( I have replaced the connector and the flange as well).

We learn something new all the time!

This is sort of an odd part to replace for this problem. Was the decision that it was leaking air?

It was an advice given by a former dutch MB-technician to replace it because it happens that the housing could have a little crack even though it is not always really noticeable. So now it runs and I will go on with getting it run smoothly now.

Can somebody tell me something about the air flow sensor adjuster. I am confused about that one. I cannot get it right. If it is turned all the way to the left will this give more air or more fuel ???
Please help me

I think you are referring to the mixture adjustment (3mm hex key)?

Viewed from above, you turn it clockwise to richen the mixture (more fuel), and counterclockwise to lean it. Remember, a 1/4 turn is a HUGE adjustment.

There are a lot of posts on how to do this. You cannot do this by feel. You can use the voltage between pins 2 and 3 of the diagnostic socket, or duty cycle reading.

let us know if you managed to get it running correctly and idling at the correct rpm.
I may need to replace that part.
Thanks.

Yes, No, Maybe

What happened? You said you had it starting and running and you were fighting with the mixture adjustment.

What is it doing now?

But to answer your question. Yes it is possible for them to leak. Some people think they are a trouble spot. Others have said they rarely cause problems. My experience on a 240K mile car with idle problems was that it made no difference.

yes, I had it running. Just wanted to drive a bit. and it really was a bit ..... it stopped after 30 meters and I had to push that heavy thing back into my garage because it would not start anymore. So the "not-starting-issue" is back.
The short moment that the car was running I still heard something at the back side (when you are standing in front of the car) of the engine like if it was still leaking air somewhere. So I keep searching for a solution why it does not want to start anymore.
