Light in Ashtray? 380SL
Can anyone please tell me if there is supposed to be a light in the ashtray in a 1984 380SL?

Our 1986 300SL had an illuminated ashtray and since even the 82 W201 190 had illuminated ashtray I figure your SL must have that as well.
Take a close look under the chrome top and if you see a white, blurry square at one of the sides that is the spot that should be emitting light... greetingz,

I should have an ashtray light?
 That is what I love about this forum, learn something new everday. (I just had that tray out the other day and did not notice a socket)

My Euro 1985 SL has a light
On the left, inside the ashtray there is a coperarea that meets with a prong on the ashtray. It gives power to the lighter and ashtray light. Pull your ashtray and see if it is there.

Light in ashtray
My 1981 280SL R107 does indeed have a light bulb in the ashtray. If you separate the actual ashtray after removing, you will see the light bulb just after the push in lighter. None of the local parts chains have this bulb in my area so for me it is a trip to the mercedes guys.
