oil pressure gauge 1984 280sl euro
Hi
I have a UK (euro) 1984 280sl. The oil pressure gauge reads 1.0 bar when the ignition is on ? It then sits at 3 when off idle and falls to 2 when idling. any advice please |

That sounds like very good oil pressure.

Check the wire to the sending unit, located on the oil filter housing to be sure it's not grounding out on something. If that's OK, it sounds like you need a new sending unit.
Obviously, should read zero with key on.

I have had this problem with my W123 300 Diesel, but then it was the temperature gauge.
With ignition the indicator/pointer of the gauge went to 20 degrees Celsius. When the engine was at operating temperature the indicator/pointer said 100 degrees Celsius (boiling point). I know now that when the indicator/pointer of my gauge says 100 degrees Celsius the engine is 20 degrees less, so good operating temperature. The same with the pointer for my fuel. |

With ambient temperature - do you mean the temperature outside? 5 degrees Celsius. It is spring, but temperature does not know that yet.
