I would like to know if the hood and trunk lids on my 1979 450SL is made of aluminum, please inform me on that if anyone knows. Thanks,Dennis

I'm fairly certain they are steel, unless it has been replaced with new somewhere down the line. Trunks were always steel, and I don't believe aluminum hoods on the SL came along until the 1986 560SL.

SLC 5.0's had aluminum hoods and trunks.

like al said. . .450SLC 5.0's and 500SLC's had aluminum hoods and trunks, however this hood piece is quite pricy if you can find it and the SL and SLC trunks differ in length (the SLC's is much shorter then the SL's). .the hoods are the same until '86 (steel or aluminum), then they got a notch for an enlarged brake booster)
