W 129 500 SL Tranny Question?

Hi, Phil Here. My 1992 500SL runs fantastic but it is not a Cheetah of the line? Somewhere I heard that my 4 speed auto starts out in 2nd gear under normal driving conditions, I get about 1/2 inch of gas peddle travel before the SL gets moving, My question is: Can my Tranny be adjusted to start out in First gear all the time and can my MB mechanic handle the job?

All this is based on what I heard, Does my SL start out in 2nd Gear?

1992 Sweet 500SL Thanks in advance, Phil Justice

Yes it starts with the second.
You can floor it to down shift down to first.
Or, move shift lever all the way down and to the side to go in first, and then shift manually up.
It is not a cheetah of the line, have you kick't it at about 45-100 or more, and see?
It will down shift at 110.
It is a heavy cheetah.
0 to 60 in 6" is not slow, for an almost 5000 pound car.
Regards.

It's not a diesel dually - the curb weight was 4,145 lbs.

Lol I did say about.
Curb weight is with car empty, no gas, etc.
The R129 is heavier then it's older brother.
Then depending size of engine, 6, v8, v12, plus options, Big rims, tires, the list goes on, and on.
Plus gas,+ people + my stereo system, amps, sub woofers etc.
Now it is getting close, or more?
Regards.

My wife says my 129 "drives like a brick" because it doesn't have first gear start. If anyone comes up with a really inexpensive kit I will probably modify mine!

Of course, she never kicks it down at 90 to pass anyone! These things will FLY!
