Mercedes Manuals 1989 560sl

Has anyone purchased the CD manuals from Mercedes? I contacted them and they wrote me the following:

MBUSA is pleased to offer a technical information CD-ROM designed for
your
vehicle 107 body style. The manuals included on this CD-ROM are as
follows:

1) Chassis and Body Manual
2) Engine Manual
3) Automatic Climate Control Manual
4) Electrical Troubleshooting Manual
5) Maintenance Manual

The CD-ROM is not returnable and is compatible with an IBM computer
system.
It includes technical information designed to repair one's car;
however, it
is not in a "how-to" format.

Are these manuals worth the money? Does anyone have any clue to the cost? I am confused on the not a " how to " format?

Thanks
Mike

I have been using alldatadiy.com for my 380SL, and I like it better than the CD's. There are a few jobs missing, but it has a neat "search" feature, labor hour estimates, Technical Service Bulletins, and you don't need a CD. Cost is (I think) $24.95 per year for the first vehicle, and $14.95 for additional ones.

I have one. Not my favorite. I prefer a hardcopy manual...which I also have. I think they were being offered for $20 at MBUSA. I paid $150 from my dealer here in Canada. I had the need to file a rape charge.

As far as the "not a how to" comment, it is not a Chilton / Haynes. It will not hold your hand. The manuals were designed for MB mechanics who already have a general mechanics knowledge.

If you can, get both the CD and the hardcopy. Both are usually on EBay. I paid way too much for the CD ($over $80.00) and the hardcopy was $150.00 for the 107 chassis and body manuals (2 vol set, brand new in shrinkwrap). The 'how-to' is what this forum is for.

You only paid too much if it's not an MB original. I got the hardcopy manuals on ebay as well for $82.00. That was a steal.

mercedes manuals

I too subscribe to ALLDATADIY and bought a "factory" CD on EBAY for about $12.00. The CD was a pleasant surprise. It covered everything except the transmission and was very easy to use. Between those and the wealth of experience freely offered on this forum I have yet to come up with something that I couldn't handle.

The car is easier to isolate faults and repair than I thought it would be.

Yes they are worth the money. So are the paper manuals at about 4 times the cost. But as far as manuals rate, MB manuals all suck both paper and CD.

But they are worth the money because they are the best information you can get period.
