Saying "hello" and a newbie question
First off, I want to say "Hello everyone"! I have just recently acquired a very nice 1989 560SL. Hopefully, this will be my "keeper". As I'm going to be doing just about every bit of maintenance and repair work I have a couple of questions that I have not been able to get the answer to via the search feature. Where do I jack the old girl up at? Both front and rear. And very related, where do I then set the jackstands? This would be to have the car sitting on 4 jackstands when done. I'm quite sure that you do NOT jack up under the factory emergency jack points., nor put the stands there. There are a couple of fairly obvious points,I think, but I will let you guys that have done this advise me rather than try and re-invent the wheel here. Thanks !!

Yes, I'll second the 'welcome'. Lots of discussion on jacking points here. Do a 'search' and you'll see what I mean.
I like to use the unibody frame members in front, with a piece of wood, just where they stop at the wheel arch, and the subframe mounts at the rear, under the bolthead, for jackpoints. Sometimes I'll use the lower 'A' arms, front or rear, and have on occasion used the front subframe yolk. I thought I read that some use the rear differential too. If you scroll down a bit in this thread (esp. post #11), you'll see my '86 SL on jackstands, where it has rested since December '07, and is still on them. The front ones are under the very frontmost ends of the frame rails, so I could drop the subframe easily. The rear jackstands are under the subframe mounts.560SL subframe removal questions
