Wink I just got a 1979 450 SLC 5.0

As luck has it, I was just looking around saturday afternoon in my local listing and I came across a listing for a 1979 450 SLC. As always, I am constantly looking at 107's for a nice deal. with the gas prices skyrocketing, I think that people are getting scared and just practically giving away some of these terrific SL' and SLC's. Anyways, I made an appointment to put some eyes on this car, after a nice detailed conversation with the owner. He told me about some of the flaws (The dash lights dont work, and a few very small rust bubbles) so I decided to take a drive in my SL with the top off, as it was a awesome day here in South Florida.

I arrived to find a beautiful car sitting on 2006 E500 wheels. I walked the length of the car, and it struck me-this has euro bumpers....strange for a 450 SLC circa 1979....I then notice the Euro lights, and the 5.0 badge on the right rear trunk edge. I am now trying to act cool and calm. I google the car on my I phone, and I find the info on the 5.0- After I verify the 026 on the VIN, I now start trying to make real good friends with the guy. After a few beers and a good conversation about heavy machinery and stuff, we struck a deal, shook hands, and I paid him faster than he would have imagined.

This car is awesome. I have owned a few 6.9's and those were rockets. This car is unreal. I have minimum stuff to do, as I will post some photo's after I get it out of the detail shop. It was a little dirty....

Anyone have a idea if this car is a real keeper? It reads that there are only less than 200 in the world left on the road.

Let me know!

Well done, I just picked up two of these cars recently. Not in good condition but after a fuel pump change and a little bit of tuning the blue 500SLC runs like a train. I have yet to take the 450SLC 5.0 out.

They are pretty rare cars with only 3000 made.

If its for real it is a keeper. Rare desireable and fast. Not worth all that much at present, but a definate future collectible. There are so few of them that I imagine it is hard to establish a value in this country for them.

absolutely! I will be happy to have a photo shoot- Since I also have a production company I was thinking of a camera shoot of the cars... I also have a nice white 75 450 SL Let me know that sounds good I am crazed to get it back to me...Also it is correct- they are not listed as 5.0 anywhere with additional value. And they are rarer thatn lots in recent time. I will post the pics this week! Keep looking!~ ALSO: why does the 450 SLC 5.0 have euro lights and bumpers? was there this issue that was imported along with the 500 SLC 5.0??

I believe euro parts are standard equipment on all 5.0's. . I can not recall ever seeing them with American equipment. . .

SLC 5.0's were never imported officially by MB to the US and hence they do not have the the big bumpers. Some were fitted with US Style headlights after the fact.

My 500SLC is a real interesting one. It has manual windows, no sunroof, velour but the automatic climate control that was an expensive option outside the US and standard in the US.

Hot damn! I would take $4k for my blue 500SLC which starts on the button and runs like a bat out of hell.
