1st time posting

I just purchased a 1985 EURO mercedes 280 s/l 5 speed standard.
There is triangle shaped yellow light that stays on all the time . It is just to the left of the Fuel indicator gauge . Any ideas as to what it means. Also looking for a owners manual for same. Does anybody know if there is an owners manual strictly for this car or do these manuals cover many years and various models all in one manual.. ie 1980 -1985 Euro 280 sl, 380, sl, 450 sl etc.
Also how can small cracks be fixed on the rubber bumpers. Any and all ideas are welcome . Thanks to all for looking and responding .

Well, if you are talking about the true owner's manual, like the one that comes in the glove box, yes there is such a thing. However, mine is in German. My father imported mine, and at some point, he got a 380sl owner's manual. Is pretty much the same and points out the basics.

If you are looking for a maintenance manual, you are in for piecing stuff together as best you can since the 280 was not imported into the U.S. officially. You will need a motor manual for the 110 model motor, something like a 123 chassis had them. Then you will need the body stuff from the 107 chassis, which is what ours is. Some of those models are the 450sl, 380sl, or 560sl. You can put together everything you need no problem, is just has to be from multiple sources depending on how deep you would like to get.

Can't help you with your bumpers. Sorry.

Welcome.

Glenn

Thanks Genn. Appreciate the input. Alo when checking the oil the dip stick has no markings on it other than a very faded line near the bottom. Not sure how to know when it`s low on oil .

What you are seeing is the low fuel indicator. If the tank is more than 1/4 full, you have a bad sender (in the top compartment). Lots of posts on how to test and replace.

Welcome. You might be able to find a manual on E-bay.

Dream on.

On the dipstick, I would Change the oil and put in the proper amount, run it and let it run down and then make a high mark on the dipstick. Probably just a scratch, just so I would know.

I would have thought it would have the grooves on the side like every other benz I have owned. I wonder if it is an aftermarket dipstick?

Good luck with it. I have always admired the 107 110s with five speed. Its on my list of benzes that I have never owned (yet) that I might want.

Thanks for the great advice. I just purchased a manual from another 280 sl owner Perhaps that might also give me some insight.
Also I don`t have a key for the lockable glove box on my EURO 1985 -280sl. It opens and closes fine but no key. Any ideas.
Happy motoring all.... Bill

P.S. Here is my new baby....

to find out the original int. color, post vin or the data off the cross member radiator support (its a small metal plate with screws holding it in) it has a bunch of numbers (such as 246) that tell what options were on the build.

Your ignition/door key should open the glovebox, does your key work the trunk, if not, you may have a valet key and need a standard key cut for it to work. . .
