450 SL, I need simple help, please!!
Hi,
so, my '80 450 sl has been repaired, however, I fear there used to be some sort of front spoiler on it of some sorts? I don't know, I don't have any pictures where you could see the front bottom of the car... right now, there seems to be no cover under the front bumper, I can see the axle and the horns and the towing thing... is this normal? Could anyone please give me a picture of their lower front? A second thing, I bought a set of fender trim from performanceproducts4benz, but the rear fender trim doesn't fit the way it should... are these available original from mercedes, or does anyone have any tips? Thanks guys, Franz |

There should be a front bottom bumper that covers most of that stuff (horns, etc). Even with the bottom half, you can still see some of the horns.
On the fender trim, assuming you got the chrome??? I had that one mine, 3 out of the 4 fit great - one didn't. I sent it back and they sent another one that fit a whole lot better - but not perfectly. I don't think MBZ offers fender trim??? |

Use the resources you literally have in your hand. Go on Ebay. There are dozens of pictures of SL's from all angles.

Ok, I did as you suggested, and I found a picture on a happy owner's web page.
I can't see that much, but it looks like there's a black (maybe plastic?) piece under the connection between the 2 fenders. Is that piece standard? It must be, since I can't remember seeing my horns, or the axle from the front, lol. |

They already promised to redo it, the problem is that we're in Austria, and it's tough figuring out how my '80 SL looked like before the accident >-<. I'll take a pic right now, so you can see.

What you posted is exactly what the stock system looked like. MB didn't add the larger spoiler until the 560SL.

Yes you have everything. The only problem is that MB does not apply color to the sway bar supports. If you just apply some undercoat to those supports and the tow ring. It will all look right. Your problem is especially accented but your bright color.

Hm, so it's just so obvious because of the coloring, huh? Figured ^^. It was an option we considered. I'm just wondering, what does this guy have on his SL (It's also '80)?

The first two have some kind of aftermarket spoiler. The last one has a 560SL style spoiler, either a reproduction or OEM.

Oh, wait, you are missing the plastic scoop on the bottom. It extends down about 2.5" below the bottom of the yellow piece.

So my first post was right the F@#$d up. I would also undercoat the sway bar supports.
