280 SL Repair Manual

Where can I buy a detailed repair manual for my '83 280 SL?
While stationed in Europe, I bought it in Germany back in new '83 , had the DOT and CA EPA conversion done and was good to go. I very seldom drove it for one reason or another. Well after 2 years in the garage, I decided to bring it out, wash it and drive it for the summer. It currently has 77K original miles. With the price of labor, thought I'd do my own maintenance so that's why the repair manual is needed.

Nice looking. You will probably have to get separate manuals: one for body & chassis and one for the engine. You won't find those two combinations together.

I'm working on getting the same now myself. EBay is one place to look.

There are plenty of pirated CD copies which would have everything you need, but I won't cross that line.

One nifty manual is a little grey pamphlet for diagnosing troubles with the CIS fuel system. You'll need the one for the 1980 & models. You also need a CIS fuel pressure gauge.

Search the forum (especially the vintage area) for "CIS" and you'll find lots of interesting bits and pieces of trivia.

So I should buy a manual for a 280C, 280S, 280SE which will have the engine parts identifier and the procedure on the removal and re-installation of parts?

Then a manual for a 380SL will identify the chassis parts?

BTW what does "CIS" stand for?
