Has anyone removed a 107 sl trans?

I have a 380sl with a rear main seal leak. I have a Eagle 4 post lift and a high boy trans jack. I was wondering if anybody has removed their auto trans from under the car rather than out the hood with an engine extraction. The SL engine CD manual only mentions removal with the engine through the hood opening. I know there is limited access to the upper bellhousing bolts but is there enough room to get a swival socket in on a long extension? Please and thank you.

I have a leak too - most likely front transmission seal. I won't attempt this myself, but others have talked about doing it just by jacking car up. I have also been told job takes about 10 hours. Cost $700-$900.

I have been thinking about making up a diaper of some type to catch the leaks! Something that would clip onto the grating slots. Anyone tried anything like that? On boats that what we do to catch leaks before they get to bilge.

Yes I have. I did it on my back as I did not have a lift at the time. But I did this thinking I was going to replace the rear main seal only to find the seal to be perfect and I needed to replace the left head gasket instead. Your results could be different.

When you have the transmission out make sure you replace the front transmission seal as well.
