SL exhaust manifold
I've found that a previous owner had removed the cat converter on the right side of my '76 450SL. A prospective buyer is concerned about the cat converter on the left and I'm looking into what might be the easiest way to eliminate this. From what I can tell from the pictures in the workshop manual, it looks like the exhaust manifold from a '77-'79, when they moved the cat converters further downstream, was substituted for the original exhaust manifold on the right side thus eliminating that cat converter. I'm looking to find 1) If my diagnosis is correct that I may be able to substitute a left side '77-'79 450SL exhaust manifold for the original '76 450SL left side exhaust manifold, eliminating the catalytic converter on the left side, and connecting directly to the exhaust pipe without further modification(s) (i.e., welding, etc.), and 2) If I'm correct, where I might be able to locate a used '77-'79 450SL exhaust manifold.

Here we go again ...
If your car came with a catalytic converter or converters, it is illegal to remove it/them.
Please look elsewhere for advice on this - don't ask Forum members to help you break the law and increase air pollution.
