Question Time to change my oil?

How often should I have my oil changed? 1990 500SL 115,000 miles. I put on maybe 4000 a year, short trips of 3-5 miles every day. I used the dealership for service and the oil changes. The sticker just says due back XXX miles, a 5000 mile interval. If I had the oil changed every 6 months that would be 2000 between changes or if I let it go for a year , as I said about 4000 miles.

It’s not the money, it’s the ½ day of driving round trip and the waiting I hate. I never not changed the oil in any of my cars for a year, but those I would take to the local jiffy lube type of places.

I do check the oil level weekly and it looks ok , not burnt, and have added about an ounce in 6 months.

Time causes oil to break down as well as the heat and stress of actually lubricating the engine. Asking a question like that here will get you a lot of opinions. Sounds like you're doing okay so far to me.
