77 450SL Online Resources and fuel distributor line
Hello, just found you guys and I'm glad I did. These forums are terrific.
OK, just bought a 77 450SL. I'm totally new to Mercedes, though I'm a decent wrench. Can anyone point me to online resources, such as part-explosion diagrams, repair manuals, etc. My first problem is figuring out the names of everything. For instance, one of the fuel lines that connects to the fuel distributor is busted. Not a line to the 8 cylinders, but it goes directly into the top of the fuel distributor. It's broken at the worst place, so it can't be rigged, but must be replaced. So where do I get a 6" tube (maybe I better start talking metric?) Thanks. Bob |

First off, I think one of the best investments you can buy is one of the MB tech manuals (on CD). I don't believe they are that expensive..but they are worth their weight in gold, titanium and silver combined!
Second, get a free membership with the MB online StarTek....it's not as handy as the manual..but it will have some online exploded diagrams and such for your car...key help is finding part numbers. go to epc.startekinfo.com For parts, I have several suppliers....first, I try the link at the top of this page....where it says "BuyParts" as they support this forum. I also use Miller's (millermbz.com), and Performance Products (performanceproducts4benz.com). Then MB dealer is my last resort...

I have a '77 sl as well, and I found that using the "search this forum" function at the top of the SL page, is a great tool once you get used to asking the right question. Using this site has made working on my sl a more successful venture than if I were to go it alone with just the manual on cd.
I have learned to use Fastlane on this site for parts, over trying to find someone at the local shops since they don't either carry the correct parts or can't even get them. I have ordered parts from here early in the morning and gotten them the next afternoon. a very good source.

You might wish to take a pic of the actual fuel line you are referring to but I think it might be the fuel line item 531 below PN: A1170702832 (item 7 on last pick) going from the distributor to the pressure control regulator. Hope this helps
