380SL Overheating Engine Mystery Solved
After 114K miles, my vehicle never had the water pump and the thermostat replaced. Everything was factory original. Previous owner did a very good job of replacing all the fluids on a routinely basis.
. Recently, my engine had been overheating after replacing my new water pump, thermostat, and added new coolant. . What I did was removed the 3/4" hose that goes from the top of the expansion tank to the radiator and the thermostat housing. To my surprise, the 3/4" hoses were CLOGGED. I took a wire hanger and removed all the gunk that had been build up for the past 26 years. The hoses are still in great condition, just not very clean inside. . I filled the new coolant back into the expansion tank and ran the engine for 20 minutes. To my relieve, the temperature never went beyond 85C. . Problem solved! Yahoooooo!! . For those of you who have "hot running engine", you may want to consider inspecting the 3/4" hoses to make sure that they are not obstructed..... |
