Question keyless problem 94 SL

My two original keys worked fine in keyless mode, until I changed batteries. One remote had stopped working, and I do not recall whether the second had actually stopped working, but in any event I changed batteries in both. I believe the old batteries were the original. One key is virtually unused. The new batteries are the correct replacement per Radio Shack and two dealers. The batteries are installed positive side up. The MB parts guys have been unable to make them work either. Neither key's battery indicator light in the transmit eye will illuminate when the transmit button is pressed for more than a second, the test per the manual. The keys work fine inserted in the locks. I cannot believe both remotes are now dead. Any suggestions other than buy new remotes at MB's exorbitant price? Any chance the batteries could actually be the wrong ones, and if so how can I check this? Many thanks for your help.

The batteries are 2 + up, 2 -up (outer pair).

In the manual there is instructions how to resync the keys with the car.

At least thats for my 90.
